I-80 Bay Area Traffic Cameras: Live Monitoring
I-80 is the Bay Area's primary east-west corridor — connecting San Francisco via the Bay Bridge through Oakland, Emeryville, Richmond, Vallejo, and out to Fairfield and beyond. It's one of the most traffic-affected freeways in the region, with the Bay Bridge crossing creating a daily bottleneck that backs up miles into the East Bay.
Before any Bay Area commute on I-80, check the live cameras. Conditions at the bridge and the Maze change rapidly.
Key I-80 Bay Area Sections and Camera Locations
The Bay Bridge Approaches (Oakland Maze)
The most critical camera zone. The Bay Bridge carries roughly 260,000 vehicles per day and narrows from 10+ East Bay lanes to 5 bridge lanes. The backup builds starting at the I-80/I-580/I-880 "Maze" interchange.
Worst times: Westbound (toward SF) 7–9:30 AM. Eastbound (toward Oakland) 4–7 PM.
What to look for on cameras: Brake lights starting anywhere east of the Maze → expect 15–45 minute delays. Clear lanes → normal flow.
Emeryville to Richmond (I-80 North)
After the Bay Bridge, I-80 heads north through Emeryville, Albany, and El Cerrito before reaching Richmond. This section has multiple lane weaves and exits. The I-80/I-580 split near Albany can create backups during peak hours.
Richmond to Vallejo
The San Pablo Bay crossing at Richmond/San Rafael (via I-580/Richmond-San Rafael Bridge) draws traffic off I-80. The stretch through Pinole and Hercules to Vallejo is generally lighter but still congested during peak periods.
Fairfield and Beyond
Once past Vallejo, I-80 opens up considerably. Traffic thins significantly east of Fairfield. The primary concern here is accidents and fog in winter.

I-80 Commute Tips
Avoid the Bay Bridge peak: Westbound before 6:30 AM or after 10 AM gives you the best chance at a clear crossing. Eastbound, the bridge clears fastest after 7:30 PM.
Alternate for westbound: The Richmond-San Rafael Bridge (I-580) bypasses the Bay Bridge entirely if you're heading to Marin or North San Francisco.
HOV lanes: I-80 has HOV lanes through parts of the East Bay — carpool or take BART to skip the bridge backup entirely.
